Register your music production with NCB
Many people making their first record production ask how to submit their music to the NCB. We will try to explain why you should report and how it works on this page.
How the NCB works
NCB – Nordic Copyright Bureau is an organization that manages the rights of affiliated Nordic and Baltic composers, lyricists and producers in connection with the production and manufacturing of e.g. CDs. The organization is headquartered in Copenhagen and is owned by STIM in Sweden.
The role of the NCB is to monitor and pay remuneration to the author of the music when someone produces a physical copy, such as a CD, with their work on it. Thus, anyone making an unmodified version of the linked work does not need the author’s permission to do so, only the NCB’s. In fact, an affiliated author does not even have the right to personally authorize or deny such a request, as it transferred these rights for all of its works to the NCB when it became a member.
Often the same person writes the music and produces the CD. However, a notification must be submitted to the NCB in order to be entitled to mass produce the works. However, the amount paid will be paid to the same person except for an administrative fee charged by the NCB.
Administrative fee for own works only
Since 2015, you only pay an administrative fee of €675 when you make a CD of music for which you are the author. Previously you had to pay royalties just like for copyrighted music and then you had to wait 6 months to get the money from yourself.
How much does the NCB cost for protected works?
If you are not the author of the music that you want to put on a record, you will pay a royalty based on, among other things, the price, edition and length. You can calculate the price of the NCB on their website by following this link: http://www.ncb.dk/index.php?page_id=4943.

You register your production online at www.ncb.dk. There are good guides to help you along the way.
